I am in here.

That’s what John@Argghhh! entitled this piece, and I think it might not be hyperbole.

“What’s the one legal principle that keeps our democracy alive?” asked Mrs. Liebich in US History class in high school.

“Ummmmm….” we collectively said, and hoped she wouldn’t pick on any of us, except maybe Leslie or Mitsu, who knew everything. But even Leslie and Mitsu didn’t really know.

Habeas Corpus,” said Mrs. Liebich. She went on to explain. “If they arrest you and put you in jail, they have to prove you did the crime. This is the opposite of how they work in Russia [this was so during the Cold War]. There, they just throw you in jail if they don’t like you.”

Argghhh! The Home Of Two Of Jonah’s Military Guys..:
OMFG. The rights of an Englishman… gone the way of a Jew in 1937 Germany if Tony Blair has his way. No, Mr. Blair isn’t calling for Concentration Camps. But the changes he proposes to British law is every bit as stage-setting as the Nurnberg Laws were. At least Mr. Blair isn’t targeting a group of people by racial/cultural characteristics. He’s simply targeting everybody.

I think we might not have habeas corpus any more, if Blair has his way. At least, not in Britain.

Do you have it in the United States today?

I’m not sure we have much of it in Canada either.

Well, I’m told we have it. But I can’t say from personal experience… I’ve not been arrested for anything lately. :P

But I’m not willing to try it, really. How about you?
