hairspray

I am not the sort of person who enjoys huge, noisy meaningless musicals like Hairspray, but a friend with terminal loneliness invited a bunch of us out to dinner and the play. But no drinks afterward — I would rather rush home to watch my orange cat try to decide if her tail is attacking her.

She seems to have decided that her tail is harmless. However, to fill the void, she has decided to insert a back foot into her ear, and try to pull her brains out. I think she is making progress. Time for the ear drops again.

Perhaps I shall just turn the lights out and listen to War and Peace on the iPod.

  1. Your cat needs a partner. She/he is lonesome. I had a German Shepherd dog once who loved to lie in the yard with his front feet straight out in front of him and wait for the family cat to visit him, which she would do sometimes. She would crawl in between his front feet and purr herself to sleep. Sometimes the dog would let her stay there for a long time. But sometimes he would’nt let her stay one minute. He’d growl and would run her under the house. He could have eaten her in one bite but he never touched her. It seemed to be a game with both of them. Maybe your cat needs a dog.

  2. We do have a dog, but the cat has only tolerated her at best. This particular cat, unfortunately, has a nasty malignant tumor they can’t do anything about, and has not much time left with us. So I try to just be there for her as much as I can. She’s sleeping a lot.
