Cease fire?

From CNN:

The U.S.-led coalition today is asking Fallujah fighters for a bilateral cease-fire in an effort to restore Iraqi control over the Sunni stronghold city, the U.S. military said. Meanwhile, two U.S. soldiers and an unknown number of civilian contractors are unaccounted for after a fuel convoy was attacked near Baghdad.

So, what makes us believe that they’d honor any cease-fire? I mean, if they didn’t feel like it. This offer seems to give the fighters a legitimacy that I don’t feel they should have.

Of course, that’s my initial impression upon waking and reading all news through the mist of a sinus headache. Some, of course, would say that they should be given this legitimacy. But to what end? It will lead to no good. They don’t live in our world – mentally. They will see this offer as a sign of weakness, and are making jokes about it right now, probably.

And just so we keep a proper perspective, that’s a picture of one of our trucks.
