  1. I think that Michael Moore is expressing a contextual reality rather than assigning a particular moral/political weight to the Iraqi insurgents. Revolution produces two sides (established power vs. revolutionary power) and just because you’re on one side doesn’t automatically mean you’re on the right side. I do think that Moore is alarmingly reckless with his words but I also tend to believe that an inability of our policy makers/war-wagers to perceive the enormous weight of historical/political context is equally alarming and infinitely more dangerous.

  2. I think you might be giving MM too much credit there – I’m no expert in his work, but from what I’ve seen, he doesn’t deal too frequently in subtleties. I’m figuring he meant it like it sounded.
