Interesting contrast

Interesting: this juxtaposition of headlines on Maariv’s site. The top one shows Israel dealing with issues of life and death, literally. The next one shows Egypt getting its collective shorts in a knot over trivialities.

If we were shallow enough to generalize about Muslim vs. Western cultures on the basis of two headlines from a quick glance at a news website, we would end up inferring things about, say, the distorted vision of an Arab government that has an official policy of killing all members of a particular people, yet it finds beauty pageants worth more official interest than genocide, while Israel, as usual, deals heroically with the prevention of the genocide.

But we’re not that shallow, are we?
