We here, in my lovely hometown of Cincinnati, are preparing for an invasion the likes of which haven’t been seen here for a long time — seventeen years, to be exact. Our invasion will consist of three entities, Magicicada septendecim, M. cassini, and M. septendecula, aka cicadas, in unending quantities. Deafening quantities.
Underfoot crunchiness. Overhead thrumming. I can’t wait. Till it’s over, that is. 12 have reportedly emerged last Saturday. Eeesh.
