The detainees, and the UN, and stuff

I’ve been thinking a lot about what Ruben has been saying in comments to a post of mine, and here’s my answer, so far. (This isn’t the sort of thing one can get quick answers to.)

Dunno… Are these the same UN people who don’t sanction the Palestinians regardless of how many innocent Israeli children they kill on purpose?

I’ve tried, Ruben, but I can’t do the moral equivalency necessary to see the Guantanamo detainees as equally badly off as Saddam’s torture victims. The Guantanamo people actively want to do us harm, and the vast majority are guilty of actively working against us in some way.

I’m sitting here trying to feel bad for the “victims” in Guantanamo. I can’t do it. Perhaps I am bad, or simply imperfect. But I can’t do it.
