Once upon a time, with a shark

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who grew up in a forest in Ohio.

She was very lonely, and dreamed about sharks. Sometimes, she dreamed she was a shark. This was not so very strange, because once, when her father had taken her fishing, she had caught a very small shark.

She did not tell this to people very often, because they did not want to believe her. Little girls, after all, do not catch sharks, even if they do go fishing.

As she grew up more, she found a wonderful teacher who taught her all about poetry. The girl wrote many poems, but no stories. Especially not stories about sharks. She did not even tell her teacher about the shark.

After the girl grew up, she kept writing lots of poems, and became very good. This made the teacher angry, because the girl had a mind of her own now, so the teacher grew mean and quit being her teacher any more.

The girl still writes lots of poems. She is beginning to wonder, though, if maybe she should tell someone about the shark.

  1. This little girl sounds very smart to me. This grown woman sounds very smart to me.
    Tell someone about the shark.

  2. It was a little sand shark — not quite a yard long. It was just like the kind you get to dissect in some biology classes. I caught it on a family trip to the Bahamas.
