It’s because of who people like Germaine Greer turned out to be, in real life. I used to admire her, back in the Seventies, when feminism provided only a handful of academics to be heroines. You just accepted the lot of them, actually. Kind of like accepting the whole of a baseball team, when you’re a fan. You take the bench-warmers as well as the All-Star Game shoo-ins.
Now, however, Greer shivers with pleasure at the death of a fellow human being.
