Choice

I was in the tub for a long, hot soak tonight. Doubt I’ll get much chance for those after Wednesday morning when they put in my port, or whatever it’s called. Some sort of device that will enable “them” to poke me with needles as much as they want without making me look like a particularly inept heroin addict. We mustn’t have bath-water seeping into our surgical wounds, after all. Infections and crap like that can happen.

However, during the course of aforementioned long, hot soak, I shaved my legs. Why am I writing this in my blog? I almost never blog about such trivia. Actually, I never ever do. Ick. But in three or so weeks, I’ll be quite bald. That is actually why I shaved my legs.

Tonight, I got rid of some hair by choice. Choice is going to be in short supply for me during the next few months. I thought I’d stock up.

  1. Hello Patti

My wife knows about the wigs and had tried quite a few before starting her own company making soft hats in cotton and velveteen.
Even fitted wigs are hot and scratchy.
You can read about her and see her designs at http://www.stylishnoggins.com
Susie has been in remission from breast cancer for almost 3 years.

I wish you the best of health.

  2. Hi Ruben! I have no idea what they call it. All I know is I can’t eat after midnight tonight 😛

BTW, make Spyros vote in the poll! I have to have his input too!

  3. What turned out to be a very fun occasion was when my husband shaved my head after my hair started falling out. I decided to have my head shaved because:
    1. As the hair fell out, it was making a mess and clogging up the shower drain, and getting all over my clothes. I was in a car and the window was open and the wind blew and hair got all over everyone, etc
    etc.
    2. If you don’t shave it, you end up with strands and wisps all over your head and you will look like Yoda from Star Wars (as a former oncology nurse, I knew that little factoid prior to receiving chemo).
    3. It gave me a sense of control – getting rid of hair by choice, as you mentioned.
    4. My kids (aged 10, 12 and 17) loved the sense of fun at the time. It was good for them.

I did it in steps. First I had my hair cut very short, and then when it really started falling out, I did the shaving thing. When it grew back, for about a year I had the coolest curls. Corkscrews all over my head. Unfortunately, it straightened out over time.

I enjoyed being bald for a time. It was fun and different, and I knew it wasn’t forever. You may find that you need a sleeping cap at night. Amazing how cold a bald head can get. I never liked putting the covers over my head to keep it warm. Too claustrophobic.
