You might not have noticed it, but I have been writing furiously these past couple of days.
Well, I must admit that the reason you haven’t noticed this is that I have been doing the writing in an unusual manner. I have been using a pen (sometimes a pencil) to do the writing with, on actual sheets of paper. True, I’ve found many programs that one can use to keep a diary with on the laptop. Some of these were even specifically written for the purpose, with file encryption and everything.
But a friend of mine out in Boulder, whom I visited on our last trip, had said that she has been writing a lot too, and by hand. I came to agree with her, and for the same reasons. If one has one’s laptop with one at the coffee house, and if the coffee house has WiFi, as they mostly do nowadays, the possibilities for distraction are nearly endless, and the temptation is very strong. Writing by hand, as I am also discovering, affects me in ways that the typing of the same words on the laptop simply doesn’t. I am still trying to figure out the mechanics of all of this.
Bear with me.
