Seriously. I consider it a good goal in life to make math less scary to people, and perhaps give a glimpse into how beautiful a subject it really is. Today’s subject: The Golden Ratio. It figures a lot in art and nature as well as Euclid’s geometry. Go read about it if you have a few spare minutes.
In mathematics and the arts, two quantities are in the golden ratio if the ratio between the sum of those quantities and the larger one is the same as the ratio between the larger one and the smaller. The golden ratio is an irrational mathematical constant, approximately 1.6180339887.[1]
