I used to be a volunteer at the Zoo, and Emi was one of their most prized residents. Seeing how endangered her species is, her death is truly a great loss.
The Cincinnati Zoo is mourning the loss of their endangered Sumatran rhino, Emi.
The female rhino died at the zoo on Saturday at the age of 21. She had lived at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden for the past 14 years.
Emi is the mother of three calves; Andalas, born in 2001, Suci, born in 2004, and Harapan, born in 2007.
Emi’s first calf, Andalas, was the first Sumatran rhino bred and born in captivity in 112 years.
