All the below-mentioned technology goes into watching From Here to Eternity, which was made, I believe, in 1953. My husband and I cannot find any of the actors and actresses in the “still alive” category. Even the original writer, James Jones (he wrote the novel) is dead. Not only dead, they’ve even made a movie about his death — A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries. Now, that’s dead.
I wish there were more black and white movies made. Indiscriminate use of color can be distracting. Forms and shading disappear into the background, while the silly, unthinking eye goes right to the gratuitously fancy, flashy thing zipping around the screen. We miss true beauty because our eyes are too tired to see it.
