Comfortably numb

Well, half my lower jaw is. Dentist today, for a temporary crown to get rid of a cavity. Got nitrous oxide, so I had a nice nap after I got home. Woke an hour ago, and my jaw is still numb. No dinner for me yet. I don’t wish to end up having eaten my tongue.

Getting out of the chair, I asked the assistant, “Did I talk about mathematics?” (While I was under the nitrous, that is.)

“No.” Quizzical but tolerant look.

“Good.”

Would I have talked about abstract algebra, or basic topology? I could probably ramble on much longer about the topology. Compact spaces appeal to me when under anesthesia.

  1. I have to get a “cavity” filled. I didn’t even know I had one; it’s not like it hurt or anything! But this means I’ll have to get a shot in my mouth, which I am NOT looking forward to at all. I know it doesn’t hurt (I’ve had teeth pulled before), but the prospect of having a needle in your mouth is rather discomforting, isn’t it? My hope is that, since they called it a “baby cavity” and it doesn’t seem to have gone past the enamel yet, I think that by major brushing I can get rid of it before June 11. *prays* I want to remain a member of the No-Cavity Club!!
