Our kitchen windows are in the process of being re-installed! At long last! They’ve been missing since spring, replaced by thick plywood. They’re the old leaded glass kind, and have a disturbing tendency to succumb to rust.
Summed up: our kitchen was literally a dungeon all summer, and we went to the kitchen only when we had to. I’d forgotten what a gathering place any kitchen is. Of course I could still make a cup of tea and sit and read at the counter, but it’s not the same when all the windows are boarded up, and the general feeling is of dungeon-ness. One tends to get the hell out of a room like that.
But now, just in time for the shortest days of the year, we have windows. Did I miss them during the long sunny summer days? š”
