How not to behave

From Poppy Z. Brite’s Dispatches from Tanganyika, a note on fashion for the upcoming Carnival season in New Orleans:

It’s the first day of Carnival season! We have a short one this year (Mardi Gras is Feb. 8 ), so get your king cake, parade, and, yes, bead on early. I should repeat my dicta of last year: Wear Not The Beads unless it is Carnival time, preferably Fat Tuesday, and you have just caught them from a parade, preferably Zulu or Rex. Do not catch them from balconies in the French Quarter, with or without showing your tits or your dick. Do not walk around wearing them for more than an hour after a parade. Do not wear them into restaurants. Do not pay for them.
