  1. It’s somewhat ironic that, as far as I can tell, the good folks in Odessa had no idea who Robert Creeley was. There was no notice or article in their newspaper, the Odessa American.

    Twenty miles to the east, in Midland, our paper did at least carry an article about Creeley, in noting his death. That article quotes a English prof at our local community college who expressed disappointment that she wasn’t even aware that the poet was in west Texas. (Marfa, where he was temporarily living and working, is a three hour drive south of here.) As she points out, we don’t often get poets of that caliber in our area.
