Liberal harping about… I don't know what.

I found this blog entry through my reading of LGF’s RSS feed. What I’ve cited here is an aside by the blog-owner taking LGF and other conservative blog sites to task for

  1. not liking the article, especially certain very vehement, inflammatory sentences
  2. saying so, and
  3. giving examples of the ideas/sentences they didn’t like

So, I ask myself, what’s wrong with that? The sentences are rather execrable, even though they are obviously being used as rhetorical devices. The article can be summarized (yes! I dare summarize!) as saying that, well, blue states should send aid money to help out the New Orleans victims of Hurricane Katrina, even though Louisiana is a red state, BUT they should not hesitate to give the aforementioned victims great pieces of their mind about how awful they (the Louisiana red-staters) are for being mindless puppets of the evil Bush regime™. Either that, or the author is advocating giving money only to the refugees who voted for Kerry. It’s hard to tell which.

By the very nature of the Blogosphere, that which you publish is understood to be part of a large conversation. When you object to others’ disagreement because they, well, disagree with you, you immediately become silly, and on the verge of irrelevance.

And, for the record, I’m on LGF’s side in this.

THE BRAD BLOG: “Katrina: Yes, You CAN Blame Bush”:
(NOTE to LITTLE GREEN FOOTBALL readers and the other Rightie blogsites who parrot that one with misleading headlines like “Bradblog: Don’t Donate to Bush States”. You may (or may not) wish to know that the following BRAD BLOG Guest Blog item by Joseph Cannon has been entirely misquoted to you out of context by your blogmasters. Like your “President”, your blogmasters seem only interested in misleading you and ensuring that you stay in the dark by giving you only the selected-out-of-context information which meets their own political agenda. We invite you to read Mr. Cannon’s entire blog item before you add your two cents in the comments section here whatever they may be. Unlike LGF and the bulk of the other rightie blogs that have misquoted this article in hopes of avoiding accountability where it belongs for this national disaster, our comments section is open and requires no pre-registration, which LGF no longer seems to allow anyway. As to LGF’s misleading update to their misleading item describing my comment here as “an uttlerly craven excuse,” I promise to scratch my head and ponder for the rest of the evening what “excuse” it is they are referring to. Even LGF’s reply to my comment is wholly bereft of anything that represents actual information, honesty or reality. LGF and other rightwing blogsite readers, along with all Americans, deserve much better. All opinions here are welcome. Even those with which we don’t agree. BF)

  2. What’s interesting is that the level of discourse has escalated to extremes on both sides.

It’s scary to watch. People are forgetting how to be civil. People are politicizing every single thing.

    Sigh.
