I am REALLY not the only one. [Technorati sucks]

It can’t be just me if Jason Kottke also has been fed up with Technorati.

So long, Technorati (kottke.org):
That’s it. I’ve had it. No more Technorati. I’ve used the site for, what, a couple of years now to keep track of what people were saying about posts on kottke.org and searching blogs for keywords or current events. During that time, it’s been down at least a quarter of the time (although it’s been better recently), results are often unavailable for queries with large result sets (i.e. this is only going to become a bigger problem as time goes on), and most of the rest of the time it’s slow as molasses.

He goes on to recommend PubSub as an alternative. I’ll go check them out now.

  1. I hope that you decide that PubSub.com serves your needs. Please be aware, however, that our service is a bit different from Technorati’s since we do “prospective” search rather than the “retrospective” search that Technorati implements. At Technorati, you can issue a query and immediately get a list of blog entries that have been published in the past. At PubSub, you create “subscription” that will tell you whenever something you are looking for appears in the future. Thus, when you first create your subscription at PubSub, you won’t have any results! The results will fill in over time — in the future. Some folk call this “Searching the Future.”

If you have any ideas on how we can make PubSub more useful to you, please don’t hesitate to send me an email with your ideas.
