Explosion kills two in Tel Aviv
An explosion in Tel Aviv kills three people and injures more, but police say it is probably not a terrorist attack.

[BBC News]

I woke up to see this on the news. Jaffa, which is right next to Tel Aviv, is where Mordechai and Chaya live, so I had to call right away. Mordechai was safely at work on his doctorate in his favorite café. He said Chaya had been very near the explosion, though — she was about 20 feet away, in her car, just having turned off the street. She’s okay, though the explosion shook her whole car.

So my stomach is still in knots, and here, seven time zones away, I deal with daily life in Israel.

Mordechai was purposely cheerful to keep me from getting too worried on the phone. I think that’s the way to handle life, I say to myself as I sit in the peaceful reflection of blogging. Just go on. Just.

So the builders will rebuild the buildings and sidewalk, and the tow trucks will haul away the wrecked cars, and the special Orthodox workers will hunt through the rubble for bits of human remains to give them a proper burial, and not leave them for the crows.

And I will press the “save” button.

  1. This hopeless feeling when you know something terrible has happened and there just is nothing you can do! Hopefully the knots in your stomach will untangle soon, and reflection here helps a little.
