Slowness

February is built for slowness, I think. All the fun winter holidays are over, and we are way past the newness of snow and cold weather. In fact, it wears on us. We have seen it. We want other colors now!

I read the Tale of Genji, by Murasaki Shikibu. 1100 years ago, in the Heian court of Japan, she was summoned to be one of the empress’s ladies. She attended her empress, was present at appropriate court functions, kept up with the necessary (for court ladies) pastimes of music, dancing, poetry, perfumery and incense (they only bathed 4 times a year back then). In her spare time, she invented Japanese literature, in the form of the aforementioned book. I can grok that!
