A History of the Jews

So this is my current object of study for my conversion. I must start feeling my destiny joined to that of the Jewish people, Mordechai says. I already have, which is one reason I decided on conversion — I was feeling Jewish in all but name.

I found myself rooting for Israel unreservedly, thinking of Jews as "us," until the little voice in my head told me, "Wait, you’re not Jewish." But I was thinking and reacting as if I already were.

So I will get dressed and go to the coffee house and read about the history of my would-be people, so I can feel even more of a part of them than I already do.

And hey, I’ve already been to shul…

  1. You have enough on your table right now, but the absolute BEST book in English that I’ve read in the past ten years is Jonathan Sacks’ “A Letter in the Scroll”. Simply put the chief rabbi of Rngland answers a very pressing question – for himself! – Why be Jewish!
