She’s off in Israel desecrating the Ari’s grave. If she wants to benefit Judaism, I’d suggest she stay home and learn about the actual religion.

If there’s one thing Madonna is all about, it’s piety. When she’s not posing naked in unsuccessful coffee table books. I’m sure Israel’s religious Jews are absolutely thrilled to have her in Israel during Rosh Hashanah. This is probably just the kind of publicity they’ve been praying for. The most exciting thing to happen in Judaism since the Romans sacrificed a hog in the temple in Jerusalem.

Judaism and Christianity have traditionally extolled qualities like chastity, humility, and devotion. Thanks to Madonna, none of that crap is necessary any more. You park your Benz at the Kabbalah Center and Juice Bar in downtown L.A., you pay your tuition, and presto, instant demi-Messiah.

  1. Humility, self awareness and the false self, and holiness… are not those consistent themes in Judaism and Christianity for those seeking to become closer to God? I don’t know that those qualities are compatible with being celebrity. Or at least, it’s a very difficult proposition. But then too, conversion is (in my opinion) more of a process than an end-state.

  2. As a person who is working hard at becoming a Jewish convert, I must say, I’m really rather ashamed of all of this celebrity exploitation of what I hold dear. If they want to study Kaballah, let them first make the committment of conversion and proclaim the religion first.
