Midnight Mirage at the White House

Note: The following comment was left on an earlier posting, and I thought it wonderful enough to turn into a proper posting of its own.

Midnight Mirage at the White House

The New Year 2005 is here.
The U.S. is in the midst of a brutal war, and
Death-defying targets are on the horizon
From Arab Moslem homicidal terrorism.

Wake up! A voice called out. Wake up!
What do you see? I see an alien silhouette.
Look again, what do you see?
Oh, yea, I see splendor and lavish upon a
Royal Inauguration for me–
Celebrating in Washington D.C.,
From sea to shining sea.
Who the hell are you there in the twilight?
Hearken, urged the voice from the shadow: What do you hear?
I hear lamenting voices, of parents, widows, orphans,
And loved ones, howling: How doth our home sit solitary,
Alas, we lost our children!
Who are they? Queried the White House.
They are the bereaved parents, widows,
Orphans and loved ones! Echoed the voice from the silhouette.
They bewail their nearest and dearest who died in a strange land,
They bewail their maimed and wounded by Arab homicidal murderers.
They weep sore and their tears are on their cheeks
And they have no one to comfort them.
Cancel your Inauguration parades and banquets! Echoed the voice.
Gather your entire staff in the White House.
Tour the States from sea to shining sea
And call for comforting each and every one
Of the bereaved families, and the
Thousands of the severely injured.

And it came to pass, they all declared:
No silhouette. No voice, no vision,
It is merely a somber reminder.
So let us get on with the Inauguration.
