If there were more boys than girls being born, would anyone care to take note? Would it, more to the point, be regarded as an item to worry and theorize about?
No, the news item, being from a politically correct organization, technically stays neutral on that notion. But the fact that they report it at all, and that “scientists are theorizing about it,” directly implies that this is information that is something to worry about: this problem must be solved, the implication reads.
If they i.e. women outnumber us i.e. men, who knows what horrors might ensue?
Greater equality? Higher literacy rates coming from more emphasis on children’s education? Lower neonatal and infant mortality rates due to greater access to prenatal care for all women, and more research geared towards women’s health issues? We can’t have that!!
