Paris has streets

Paris

See? Really, it does. This is the tiny street outside our hotel, in the 6me Arrondisement.

I spent a good part of the day in the Café des Deux Magots, made extra-famous by Hemingway (who loved the place and was there a lot, giving public readings of who-knows-what) as where Jake meets Brett in The Sun Also Rises.

Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre also spent significant amounts of time there. I sat in Sartre’s place last night (there are plaques)(also pictures).

So, that was my day, apart from sleep, and a visit to a small cheap-Indian-jewelry store this afternoon. I’ve seen all the sights. Long ago. I wish to enjoy the ambience, and figure out why J-P S and S de B preferred Café Flore (1 block away) to the Deux Magots. I prefer the latter. I figure that S de B liked whatever place it was where she could read and write all the bloody morning long while drinking only one cup of coffee the whole time. Pissed the waiters off, that did. But, what could they do? She was snogging a Famous Philosopher.

  1. This would make a great watercolor.

Having a great time no doubt, and enjoy the red wine.
