The dress

I spent a lot of yesterday going up to Columbus and back with Betsy and Bunny [her mom] and Betsy’s friend Megan to get Betsy’s wedding dress. It is very pretty — strapless and with curved layers of ruffles that I don’t know how to describe. She was looking at veils too but don’t know if she’s made any decisions on it.

The dress hangs in my cedar closet right by the box that contains my own dress which I haven’t looked at since my wedding day. I am afraid that it is still full of mud. I can only hope the cleaners were able to deal with it. On top of the wedding dress box is my yellow and white formal evening dress for my debut party, and the white dress for the Bachelor’s Cotillion is hanging on the rod. Betsy’s future is hanging out there with my past. I wasn’t expecting to like this continuity (I wasn’t expecting to feel anything at all about it) but I do very much. Creating this new family is giving me a lot of energy.
