International Fellowship of Christians and Jews::
To whom it may concern:

We the undersigned, supporters of Israel from all walks of life, protest and strongly urge all groups to renounce the policy of divestment from Israel.

Divestment reflects a view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that is deeply biased against Israel. Implementing it would harm innocent Israelis who are already suffering the dire economic consequences of years of terrorist violence and who continue to live daily with the threat of attack.

We believe:

Recommendations of divestment ignore the anti-Semitism that pervades much of the Arab world and the fact that many of Israel’s neighbors deny her right to exist. They place the responsibility of making peace entirely on Israel, ignoring the grave danger posed to Israel and the free world by Islamist terrorism.
Israel must have the same rights of self-defense and self-determination as all other nations.
Israel may not be perfect — no nation is — but it is an outpost of liberty in the midst of autocratic states, the only true democracy in the Middle East and the United States’ greatest ally.
Divestment measures do nothing to further the cause of peace in fact, they undo years of hard work at interfaith understanding and cooperation.

The theologian Reinhold Niebuhr said, “… it is sheer moral perversity to equate the inconsistencies of a democratic civilization with the brutalities which modern tyrannical states practice.”

With these words in mind, we call on those who truly seek peace in the Middle East to reject in no uncertain terms divestment initiatives directed against Israel and instead to confront the systematic policies of oppression that prevail in today’s “tyrannical states” many of whom are Israel’s neighbors.
